Info Post

"A problem of  Manileños is we get frustrated to surf, we’re far from the coastlines and it will cost us to go to the beach." Coach Paolo Soler admits. What’s great is that Philippine Surfing Academy has found a way to reach out to every Manileño! Philippine Surfing Academy offers Surfing Wavepool Lessons for beginners and even experienced surfers!

“After having trained thousands of surfers, I can say that the wavepool is an effective training ground for surfing. Wavepool lessons are the safest, fastest, and easiest way to learn how to surf!” Coach Paolo engagingly shares to us.

So Coach, what is it about surfing that keeps you into it?

“Surfing is not just a sport; it’s more of a lifestyle. In surfing, you don’t need scores, or audience, all you need is wave and your surfboard. Sometimes you can even just body surf! You see, when you’re swimming in the beach and everyone tries to go with the wave, that’s really what surfing is all about! Surfing is a natural human recreation, and it’s just really fun! When you’re surfing, you have this feeling of flying, and you’re so Stoked! It is addictive!” Coach Paolo smiles as he eagerly relates.

Why teach here at Club Manila East?

Philippine Surfing Academy (PSA) aims to teach kids and adults how to surf, in a safe and conducive environment. We want to help you develop your agility, strength and ocean competency so you can enjoy while you master surfing. We started surfing classes in Samar but we looked for another location where everyone has easy access to and the nearest is at Club Manila East! Right?”

Right! But anyway, what am I gonna learn from PSA?

PSA is staffed with Red Crossed trained coaches accredited by the globally recognized Academy of Surfing Instructors Australia. So when you join us, you will master safety, basic surfing fundamentals and surf culture. You may choose a package that suits you. We got Surf In the City Package, for the daily surfing lessons here at Club Manila East. And just recently, we have also expanded at Crowne Regency in Boracay!

We offer students Jumpstarter Surfing Course, it’s a comprehensive surfing basics program utilizing both wave pool and natural beach locations in 2 days of intensive training.”

Wow beach locations!! Where is it good to surf?

“For the beach, we surf at The PaRK (Pacific Recreation Kamp) in Real, Quezon. Real is the nearest beach with waves! And at Stella Mariz Resort in Bagac, Bataan, during the rainy season only, when there is habagat. Join us on our Real Daytrip Surfari Travel Package or Bagac, Bataan Surfari Packages.

Weeeee!!! We made it! Super great coaches!!! ^_^

And soon, we will also expand at Calicoan Island in Eastern Samar, it’s one of my favorite surf spots!” Coach Paolo excitedly shares.

But Coach, what if I am really serious about learning how to surf?

“Okay, if you want to take surfing to the next level, we also have Surfcuit Training Program which is a six-part intensive surfing course. It focuses on building a surfer’s stamina, strength, and endurance, the mastery of the basics and more complex fundamentals of surfing.” He smiles.

Surfing is a personal recreational activity and lifestyle that demands personal equipment made exclusively for the surfer by a shaper who truly lives, embraces, and understands what surfing is all about. We already have surfboards, custom shaped, called 'Skwala.'

Coach, tell us more about PSA, I mean, how did this happen, or start?!

Coach recollects his thoughts and says “Before, everyone was telling me, you won’t succeed here, you will just lose a lot! But I can’t understand why you won’t love this thing! Surfing is just too much fun! It’s so addictive and it’s crazy, I can’t stop thinking about it! So I just remained determined to it.”

So you never thought of giving up surfing?

I can’t! If I didn’t succeed in any surf business, I would have to find something that will allow me to make money and surf! (laughs) I’ve been travelling the Philippines for 15 years since I graduated college, Entrepreneurial Management, and for seven years I pondered.

Until I went to Bali, Indonesia. It is the surfing capital of the world and has got the best waves. And while at Kuta Beach, I saw these rash guards, like literally hundreds of them, with the same color. And I said to myself, ‘Yes, that will work! Surf school will work!

So I put up Soul Adventure, Incorporated in 2007, it’s like our umbrella company. And then in 2008, we evolved into Philippine Surfing Academy (PSA).”

Wow!  Cool, that’s true love for surfing! Okay, hm, how do you see PSA in 5 years?

“The future of PSA… (pauses)  I wanna go as far as building surf camps, as in resorts! We’re gonna have more surf school locations, that’s gonna happen!” (smiles)
